Those pictures are awesome. Thanks Brad. I've always wondered what those places looked like.

yes...quite the interesting place. Reminds me when I would go through our local NFS branch once a week since I went there to get the prints for our theatres before they went kaput and ETS took those accounts, then the ETS branch exploded in size, and eventually had to get a much larger complex than the one that they were in.

Very nice--thanks to Brad and TES for making that update possible. I, too, was interested to see what it looks like--much bigger (and cleaner) than the local ETS depot. I never saw an NFS depot, since they were closing them right about when I started doing film work (1998ish).

Yeah, that was a really awesome treat. Thanks to Brad and the people at TES for making the tour possible. It almost makes me want to get a job in a place like that. Just more mundane and repetitive film handling, but it sure looks like fun! All those new movies come in, get to unpack stuff to ship so millions of people can enjoy... [thumbsup]

I thought the rep print storage was pretty cool. Similar to how I pictured it, but not really. I guess with that kind of filing system, when they say there are "no prints" they mean it! I noticed a couple prints in that storage area that were still in boxes. Would be cool to book a rep print and get a lab-new one.

A few strange things I noticed: DTS discs had their own secure storage area. Don't want anyone stealing that precious soundtrack! Also, the inspection tables had manual rewinds. Is that for a reason? I don't see too much benefit that motorized ones would provide other than, well, no more cranking. Also saw they were still using reel bands, so you can tell when these were taken! [Wink]

Personally, I expected the place to be much bigger. (And yes, I expected an orange building, don't laugh) To me, it looks like a pretty nice close-knit group. But I was expecting more of a soundstage-sized thing. [Smile]

Brad and I took this trip to TES in August of 2003.

The inspection tables are for inspecting the first 20 feet past the leader ("integrity check"), so there's really no need for motorization. The "full inspection" section does have motorized rewinds.

For a while there was one in an abandoned steel mill south of Pittsburgh. Not necessarily the cleanest environment for print storage, but the films I've handled from there were in great condition. I'm not exactly sure when they moved out of there, but it had to be around the summer of 1993.
