The other day I had to tech screen "Anchor Man" for our cinema manager, prior to a special preview night. Monitoring via the booth speaker, I noticed many times during the first 2-3 spools that sound and picture were out of synch, (about 1/4 second at a rough guess!) sometimes for 4-5 minutes at a time. Other times, all was perfect. Film was running in SRD with a constant error rate of 7. We have the DTS disk for the film, but have not yet had the opportunity to see if same problem exists in DTS. Has anybody else noticed the same problem with their prints of "Anchor Man"?

Oh Please!

There is no printing problem that can make a track drift in and out of sync over the course of a few minutes. In any case,if the analogue track checks OK then there can't be a printing problem.

Furthermore, the analogue track and the SRD track are shot on the same optical negative from the same MOD master. Then they are printed simultaneously. If one is wrong, the other is wrong. And the DTS disk, although it's separate from the film print, is controlled by the timecode track on the print, which is also on the sound negative. So there is no way that it's an independent check.

There may have been a problem in the MOD that the sound neg was made from, or even in the final mix itself. But I think this problem needs a bit more examination before making sweeping assumptions on this list about "printing problems".

Perhaps the term "print problem" should be used instead of "printing problem" to indicate an issue with the print without making assumptions about the cause.

Maybe it isnt a printing error as you say Dominic, all other prints before and after this film in this cinema are going fine with no problems. Now the Srd track has failed completely when seeing if the probblem followed it to 3rd screen in other screens it was running on 7 error rate so the SRD track is on the verg of failing as is problem with recon prints on the odd ocassion. All cinemas have new leds A/B chain done recently. There may be a problem which will show up again at some stage but all sems fine at the moment. When the and if the fault occurs in this cinema a tech will be called to check for any probs and rectify if there is.
