I have been searching the archives for a thread pertaining to this issue but cannot seem to find one so here goes.

I love the Christie platters as they are definitely the best I have used and Potts platters come in at a close second in my opinion. The only problem is that the Christie muts are poorly made. They are too light and a slight bump can knock one out of wack during build-up. They are made from a thin gauge material and just not very heavy duty in relation to most film equipment. This is where the Potts muts come in. I love that these things are built like tanks. They are not easily moved and are obviously better made. I have a Potts mut but no Potts platter. I want a Christie AW3 but don't like their muts. Can I combine the two? Can a Potts mut be used with a Christie AW3? If the only difference is a little wiring or changing an amphenol or two I would gladly do this. The Potts mut has adjustable rollers on a vertical post that can be moved to any height. I would think the only problem would be with build-up and wiring it into the Christie.

You would be best suited, if you really wanted to do it, to take the guts out of the Christie MUT and retrofit them to the Potts MUT- If you go this route the MUT should be 'plug and play'...

The Christie MUT uses a DC motor, and the Potts uses AC (actually a 'universal' (AC/DC) motor, but it is driven directly from the variac, thus AC in this case)

You would also have the adjust the height of the Potts MUT to align with the Christie deck heights.
