There is a switching option marked "Future Format" on my CP50 processor. This seems to by pass noise reduction decoding as well as the academy filter for mono.

What is the purpose of this option? Was it intended that out board SR cards be installed? Is it possible to use it in this way so that switching can take place between type A and SR without having to physically change the cards. If so, I'm assuming the SR cards would have to have their own out board power supply.

That Future Format button could work if you had a Dolby SRA5 hooked up (or other outboard SR box). The 50 I had was wired up to run that way with the Ultrastereo SR box (that had Dolby Cat 280's in it). Adding one of those outboard boxes is quite nice, saves the aggrivation of swapping cards, but does require you to do some soldering work on the CP50 backplane.
