A Microswitch provides an intermittent on and off feed that is somewhat smoothed out by the inertia of the platter and film itself. The phase control is a constant speed feed switch whos speed is adjustable but it also somewhat determined by the timming adjusment accuracy of the platters. Phase control switches suck big time as these platters timming drifts quite a bit...including with AC voltage fluctuations. If your booth has a professional knowledgable operator(scarce these days)then they are ok but require occasional tweeking. I prefer to remove the Phase Switches and use micros with a very light spring in them. Change the micros every 18 months even is they are still working!!
