A DS3 disc will fit on a 3" CD-R (the old DS1 disc will fit on a "business card size" CD-R).

You can replace any of the .AUD files (in the DTS folder) with movie .AUD files, except reel 1 (R1T5.AUD), it needs to be there inorder to have the disc play without film running. You must replace them with the same reel number; if you replace R2T5.AUD on the DS3 disc, you must replace it with R2T5.AUD from the movie disc. I tried changing the file name, but then the time code is not correct for that new reel number, and it won't play. This way you can make a disc that will just start playing when you put it in the DTS player without film running. If you remove the cover from the front of the DTS player you can use the "next" pushbutton to go to the next track. You can replace R14T5.AUD in the "dial up" folder on the DS3 disc with a trailer file (R14T5.AUD) from a movie disc, and then set the time code delay switches to 14 to hear the trailer file. (Don't forget to write down where the switches were, so you can set them back to the correct delay, after you are through). A DS3 disc with one movie reel on it will still fit on a 3" CD-R (as long as it is not a long movie file). The files on older DTS discs (like Jurassic Park) are different, and will not work.

Using the old DS1 disc (which only has reels 1 - 7) you can add reels 8, 9 ... from movies that have that many reels, then you have a complete DS1 disc, and a couple of movie tracks as well.

Start this process by making a new folder on your hard drive, (maybe call it DS3), then copy the DS3 disc to this folder. Then replace the reels you want to replace from movie discs. Then open you disc burner, and make a new disc from the files in that DS3 folder on your hard drive.

What are some of the movie reels that everyone here likes to use to test a theater sound system?

The Insider, Reel-1
Strong opening with good space-expanding effects during opening credits. Male voices are good for verifiying good "presence" in the centre channel.

Spiderman, Reel-1
Lively music score during opening credits. Male voice during opening narration...although not the very best male voice for checking a speaker setup, in my opinion. But I like the score.

A Bug's Life, Reel-5
Lots of stuff going on in all channels. A great test of dialog intelligibility amid lots of effects as the battle scene gets underway. Good subwoofer in two areas -- raindrops falling into the lake during the action-chase sequence and then at the end when the snow peas start popping like fireworks. Good orchestral score as the movie draws to its close. A great, dynamic reel.
