A question for those who spend alot more time with leaders than I do...

How far from the last frame of picture should the tail pop be? I know the head pop is 2 seconds before the first frame of picture, and had always understood that the tail pop was 2 seconds after last frame, but I have just got my hands on the first reel of negative for our new show and there's no visual anything (we're talking visual pop - there is no audio pop yet) until 5-6 seconds after last frame.

I dont spend alot of time working with proper academy footer. Most offline editors simply run the header backwards. The reel syncs up beautifully against our soundtrack, exept at the foot...

Thanks.

The current 35mm leader standard is SMPTE 301-1999.

Here is the ACVL Manual:

Hmmmm... 87 frames between lfop and finish mark. Our pops are 47 and the finish mark is 103 - I guess we move both. Strangely there's a "Splice Here ->" frame thats in the wrong place so its probably 87 frames from that to the finish mark.

btw can anyone get the images to load on that page? I just get a bunch of broken links.

Thanks!

That is correct, the FINISH audio pullup is 87 frames from the last frame of picture (even sync). Although, I have fudged this down to just a couple of seconds, to avoid running overtime and having to pay for another 30-seconds at the film recorders.
