Does anyone know of some machine shop service where I could have about 90 shafts made? It would be about 1.5" long, 1/4" dia., threaded at one end and with a groove for a snap ring on the other.

Any machine shop worth their salt could handle that job....but expect to pay.....Some tap your waller for 60 bucks or more per hour.

Yah... Greg can handle it... if he's so inclined.

He's made so darn much money on his inventions, I'm surprised he hasn't bought his 3rd Summer house in the Bahamas yet!

Greg made me some custom parts and believe me they were top notch and absolutely flawless. I also don't know what I would do without my Align-O-Tron! My first one walked off of a job, but dropping a couple hundred on another was a no brainer. It is an invaluable tool that every tech should have. Give him a shout. [thumbsup]

John,
The best way to get em made is to look in your yellow pages and make calls to at least 5 machine shops in your area. Make even a simple drawing and specify the quantity you need, and the material you want them made from...316 Stainless for example....then fax the drawing to five different places and get 5 bids. They will probably be priced all over the place and you can decide from there who you want to do buisness with. Also on your bid/specs ask about turn around time. Some shops use this sort of thing for filler work between large jobs...so you might have to wait a while till some big project there involved with is finished.

Certainly Greg or other Film-Tech participants are good suggestions. As others have noted, there are many good machine shops that could handle the job. As an example, I just received this link for Sterling Instrument in the mail today:

John,
Stock Drive Products is a really good company to deal with and I've bought from them for years. The special timming gears needed to build my VistaVision Projector came off the shelf from SDP as timming gear bar stock and I was able to custom make the gears myself without having to actually cut the teeth themselves. It was inexpensive and saved a lot of time.

A friend of mine has a brother in the machining business. He operates a pretty good shop in Oklahoma City called Metalwerkes Manufacturing.

Hi John

I am still setting up my lathe, otherwise I would do it for ya. Give me the specks or send me a print. I will get a quote from a friend who I bought my lathe from...a retired mold maker who now does work on the side. Let me know how many and the specks. Sounds like a simple job.
