Howdy all,

We're in the final stages of launching our student cinema at Surrey - we have been allocated finance for the install and have a quote from Future Projections that suits our needs. However, we just had a bomb dropped on us - the finance committee is refusing to release the funds for the install until they've seen three seperate quotes from three different companies. I can only think of one other UK cinema installed - Sound Associates. Can anyone recommend another installer that I can get a quote off?

If you are after cinemeccanica gear, give Nigel Shore a call at NSS imagineering - Tel 01202 524021 or Fax 01202 536351. email : nigelshore@btopenworld.com.

He lives on the South coast and is ex-sound associates. He installed all the 70mm kit at our University (Southampton). Photos are on Union Films

The most professional installations that my research team and I have viewed in recent years are those from Bell Theatre Services Ltd. There is highly specialised knowlage base there with regard to sound systemsin particular (to which a number of my research papers refer) and appear to be leading the field in digital cinema technology at the moment. They can also supply projectors from various high quality manufacturers, and offer an unrivalled technical support service - extending should you wish - throughout the weekend.

From Cambridge, good afternoon.

David

OK so what do you want.....

Peter Hall will give you a working system at whatever level you need. Don't like the guy but he will give you what you want at a price level that no one else can match. The quality of the work will be dependant on the end price.... he's a business man after all!!!

Sound associates and Bell Theatre will gie a you a quality install based on just that!... quality.

The point of this is that YOU decide what you want, cheap and cheerful and working... then stick with Peter. Or Very high quality and very expensive.

Quality that you may not need then go with any of the others....

Peter will give you a working system at a price you can afford. He offers a service that the 'bigger' guys cannot. He also offers a higher quality service.... you pay's your money and make your choice.

You make no mention of what equipment you have been quoted... that has a direct relation to comments here?

Can you be more precise!"

Cheers for the suggestions, guys.

We already have a Vic 5 projector (ex of Union Films down at Southampton University) which was in good mechanical order but hasn't been used for a year. We need to get the Vic 5 serviced and installed and also we need get a sound system for theatre installed. We are looking at a DTS6AD as the core of the sound installation.

Matthew I really wouldn't recomend a DTS6AD as your primary source. Whilst there is nothing wrong with these units, or the format as such, from my experience, as you are not a first run cinema, and not part of a major cinema chain, the bottom line is that you will not receive discs, and the 6AD will spend most of it's life running SR analogue, which there is nothing inherently wrong with, but if you want digital sound, for a venue and operation such as yours, the 6AD is not for you.
