For some reason, some manufacturers like Dolby choose to not put power switches on their equipment. I was wondering if anyone makes a rack mount unit that has 2, 4 or 6 (whatever) switches on the front and an equal number of plug ins on the back that can be individually switched on and off. Maybe even with surge protection or filtering etc.
Is there such a thing?

Yup! For the life of me I can't remember where I've seen them though. Maybe it was the Specialized Products book???

You might try the Furman "Rackrider" series. They make a rack mount power conditioner that has eight switched outlets on the rear panel. You can get them with equipment lights and even a digital AC voltage display. They're available from Broadcast Supply Worldwide for $59 - $89 depending on the model you want. They're in Tacoma. The toll-free # is 800-426-8434 or visit their web page

I've seen that same kind of conditioner John mentioned ( not sure if of the same manufacturer) also available on places that deals with/sells professional audio equipment.I think that the ones with the lights would be a good choice for use in the booth, specially the ones that has to be kept dark most of time .

So far I've found a few that have 6 or 8 outlets on the back, but only have one master switch on the front. What I was hoping for was to have each outlet controlled by a switch.

I got this one which works fine,
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=030527133440063187224056405198/g=dj/search/detail/base_id/38907
as it is a true single rackmount unit where as the other one was 2" high and wouldn't have fit in the space I had.
(This post replaces one lost in the big crash)
