I read in the DTS 70mm manual the next transcription: "...since the magnetic striping is removed, 70 mm cannot use analog sound for backup. Instead, installing a second DTS player is recommended to ensure 100% fail-safe operation...".
I already have a DTS P8 and a DTS 6D, so, IŽd like to know if I can use the DTS 6D with the P8 for backup.

70mm Titanic & 2001 are DTS only.
Our Only solution was to stay over night and make sure there were no drop outs. THERE WERE.
And requested fresh discs (they played ok)

However we had set up TAPE to the panastereo, and had it set up ready to transefer sound from 'FILM' to 'AV'
Had to keep pausing the tape to stay in sync.

Ivar,

You may be able to use the DTS-6D for back-up but it will take special wiring and will require that you use only 6-track discs. The DTS-6D cannot playback an 8-track mis whereas the P8 can.

The 2001 print we ran two years ago was mag (discrete 6-track / Todd-AO track layout, SR NR). Perhaps they've gone a different route down under.
