Hi-
What's a "moo print?" I saw the term on a pre-show advertisement slide at a theater recently, and I can't seem to find a definition of the term anywhere. They never showed the answer slide at the theater, and it's driving me up a wall.

Thanks,
Matt

I think this is like "cigarette burns." I never heard of it.

The first thing I thought of was the Tex "Moo" THX trailer, but what that has to do with pre-show slide advertising is beyond me.

I saw the same advertising slides.

The question was, approximately, "What is the
term for a perfectly manufactured film print?"

Answer: a Moo print.

I never heard of the term either.

The "Tex 2: Moo Can" THX trailer is on the new "Monsters Inc." DVD. I know it is a little off topic, but I thought I'd pass it along.

I have no idea what a Moo print is. Perhaps film reels printed in Wisconsin? Or a commerical on film for Gateway Computers?

The THX TAP print standards refer to "EK Select" and "EK Show" prints, and "Select" and "Show" prints. No "Moo" prints:

But maybe someone developed that slang with the tie to the THX TAP print grading program and the THX "Tex" mooing trailer?

Adam Martin asked: "...a perfectly manufactured film print?...They still make those?!"

Welcome to the real world of sometimes having to ship 5000 prints only a week after you receive the final cut negative. As the saying goes: "FAST, CHEAP, GOOD --- choose two."

I'm shocked that all you moo-vie mavens chickened out on "moo print",
so I won't "duck" my responsibility to enlighten yo'all.

A moo print is a shortened term for a film from the Hong Kong laboratories made with a Cantonese flame-hardening process after being filmed with a special form of camera movement. The proper term is "Moo-Goo-Gai-Pan." Because its outer layer is somewhat oily, handling is usually followed by "War-Shu-Op."

Does that come in a low fade, low-MSG version?

On the topic of Moo Goo Gai Pan, has anyone here ever seen the old Bob Newhart show episode of the same fame?

Dave
