I know it's a bit early, but who's planning to make it to Show East in Orlando this year?

I look forward to going this year. Missed last year because of a Kodak "hold" on non-essential travel in the weeks after 9-11.

Just walk in the door, turn left and go almost to the end and you will find us in Booth 1502 with a smile and a hand shake!

Hey all! ShowEast is just a 15 minute drive for me, but from what I've heard, I would have to take out a small loan if I wanted to attend. So close, and yet so far away.

Does anyone know of someone I could contact to possibly get a press pass to maybe cover the event for a school publication or radio station somehow sorta kinda maybe? Or could someone just open the back door for me like those sneaky little kids do at the movies?

Nonetheless, once we get closer to the actual event, I'd like to organize a meeting of sorts so that I can finally meet all you great people in person! Maybe by then, my screening room will be ready for "prime time"!!

On a side note, Orlando (actually Kissimmee) is also the home of the annual UDITOA conference. Ironic that it's held in a city that was once the home of over 10 drive-in theaters, and just recently, not a trace of any one of them remains anywhere.

Registration for "Trade Show and Seminars" only is $230:
http://www.showeast.com/convention_registration.cfm

If you are a good customer of any of the companies with booths at the trade show, they may share passes to the trade show only, if they have any left to give.

I'll be there with bells on.

Thomas, what you want is an exhibitor guest pass. You can ask any of the exhibitors that you know if they have one available. Also offer them the $75 or so that they have to shell out for one. This will allow you to wander the trade show floor which is arguably they best part.

Thomas is correct. Kissimmee has been the location of the last three United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association (UDITOA) conferences, and will be for the forseeable future.

We hold our conference and annual business meeting there so that outdoor exhibitors, who are busy running their theatres while everyone else is on vacation during the summer when it's warm, can get away for some sun and fun at the theme parks in February during the off-season.
Although Kissimmee no longer has any drive-ins, many of our members still get their drive-in fixes by making a run over to Lakeland to hang out at the Silver Moon Drive-In with its classic masonary screen tower.

I'll most likely be there...depends on timing and how current projects are going.

Randy -- Yes! The Silver Moon is definitely worth the drive from Kissimmee. I was there only once, and am trying to assemble a "caravan" of people to go over there again. The projectionist was great and gave me a tour and everything. The only thing I don't like is them announcing that "The snack bar will be closing..." through the sound system!! But other than that one thing, it's awesome!

Back to ShowEast... "only" $230? LOL! We'll see if I can save up that much by then. As for the Exhibitor's Guest Pass, I doubt I have bought any equipment from anyone there at any time that I know of. The trade show floor does sound like fun, though. I'll try my best to make it!

I'll go if Mark G. goes.

I feel a ROAD TRIP coming.

Actually it is pretty far, so a plane trip seems more likely. My schedule during that period is tight so I think I am going to wait until showest next year.

Dave,
I am starting work at Claco on 9/3. Actually I have already been doing a few things to help out in the field and in the shop. My month long vacation is over as of then. With Clayton, Earl, Jon, Greg, and myself we add up to a little over 100 years combined experience! I Wonder how many other dealers can claim that?
