I am checking an Edlo Dimmatic lighting control and was curious as to what the 556 timer does. It looks like it uses the RESET line as an line voltage type trigger which in turn pulses the SCR pack through the output with the input pulse width controlled by the input on Dis/Threshold pins of the 556.
There is a print in the manuals section on it for reference.
Timer circuits have always stumped me but I believe I have this one figured out.
Anybody know the theory on these things that could share some with me?

Thanks!

You are basically correct
The timer chip is the sync to the AC line

Thanks,
The manual that I have doesn't give a lot in the way of theory so just had to redraw the circuit to figure out what makes it tick.
Simple design once it is redrawn.
