I always clean splicers with lighter fluid. I've never had a problem getting the gunk off the blade and perf cutter. Yesterday I clenaed the splicers at my new theater for the first time. I used an off-brand lighter fluid. I needed to do a little more scrubbing than usual to get the gunk off. Could it be the brand of lighter fluid, or perhaps could it be the brand of tape we use? Or both?

What type of tape are you using? Clear Neumade tape seems to leave less gunk than any other type.

Try a cleaner called Energine. It's a spot remover (white 8oz can)and can be had in the cleaning section of better drug stores (We have "Long's" locally). It's 100% Naphtha, which is the stuff in lighter fluid that does the cleaning for you. Energine is also cheaper than lighter fluid. Don't snort it

Yes, there is a difference between brands of lighter fluid when used for removing adheisives. I only use RONSONOL brand as it seems to work the best.

Ken, if you stick EXCLUSIVELY to clear Neumade tape, you can use your splicers daily and only have the need to clean them perhaps once a year. ALL other tapes leave residue and clog up the splicer punches.

Anyone who wishes to contest that, please send me a sample roll of what they think is superior to the Neumade and I'll do a full review. Be forewarned, I am damned picky about residue!

I have no idea what kind of tape it is, nor do I make the purchasing decisions for my company. I simplyy wanted to know if it could make a difference. Apparently it does. Judging by what Brad said, it apparently is not Nuemade!

Neumade's core says "Neutape" on it. CPI's tape says "CPI" on it. Hudson Photographic's tape says "QuickSplice" on it. and so forth and so on. Does the cores of your roll not have anything printed on it?
