I spent a day in one of the booths today and I noticed as the operator was breaking down a print that they had totally removed the tails from the reels. There were all of these neat little rolls of leaders and I asked why the tail leaders weren't simply left on the reel (as per training).

"We are short about a dozen or so reels because they keep coming on broken reels and so these reels are from other movies."

This is ridiculous!

Will Technicolor and ETS send new reels? I'm going to ask first thing tomorrow (Monday) morning, but I'm wondering if anybody else has been in this situation...and what did you ultimately do?

I know TES will send out replacement reels for the asking. Just call up customer service like you would as if you were replacing a defective reel and request it. They'll ship you out a dozen the next day. I have to do this from time to time.

I would assume ETS will do the same, but as I don't think I've ever received a broken reel from them, it doesn't seem fair to have them send replacement reels when they will be used for TES prints.

My experience has been that TES ships replacement shipping reels via UPS ground, though the person you talk to may not know it, so be advised.

A month or two ago I requested some and was told they'd be there in a day or two, and of course since they weren't; I called again the next week and they said they'd send some more...so of course I ended up with two boxes of 4 each (all I asked for).

Needless to say, of course we're into the second box (on TES prints only)...
