Greetings from Argentina!!!
My name is Mauro and I believe this is my first post. Been lurking around for some time....using much of the great info you guys post..
I´m in charge of the booths in our chain which has 70 screens in 6 complexes. I work at our flagship complex here in Buenos Aires.
We have custom made Christie projectors as half of the lamphouse and projector are mounted on a lift that rise to the port window about 6-7 mts up. Our booth is below the auditorium which has stadium seating.
Must post the fotos so you´ll understand. Pretty cool stuff.
My question: does CA-Link run on Windows XP ?
I´m currently running it in Millenium and am thinking of upgrading to XP.......
Any of you guys use it ?
Thank you....

Hey, I think you (or someone) at that theater sent in some pictures of the place a long time ago, but we were never able to get back ahold of anyone for captions. (Cool theater though!)

I was unaware that CA Link would run on anything other than Win95/98. I'll have to ask the guys at Pennywise.

According to Pennywise, the existing versions of CA Link will run on Windows 95, 98 or ME. "The next major release of CA-Link should run on all Microft Windows platforms."

So when will the Unix (Linux, Free/Open/NetBSD, Solaris, IRIX, etc.) version be available?

Hello Mauro,
You should be careful about using XP. Some programs will run under XP, but may not be able to access the computer`s interfaces to communicate with external devices because these programs are written to access the interfaces directly and for security reasons Windows XP denies direct access to the serial or the parallel port. Or so it was explained to me by the programmers who are in the process of setting up our ticket system.

Scott-

You forgot Mac OS 9 and X. As well as C64, Amiga, Atari ST, and Nintendo Gamecube. Without support for all of these platforms, the CA-Link will surely fail

Joe -- good point. They should have a Mac OS X version as well. If they offer a Unix version (or even a Windows version) which has a CLI (command-line interface) in addition to a GUI, it wouldn't take much to hack together a web interface which could then be accessed by the other platforms that you mention.

Oh, and don't forget that NetBSD will run on a Sony Playstation or Sega Dreamcast (in addition to PCs and many other platforms)! There is apparently some work being done on a Nintendo64 port, too. (Personally, I only run NetBSD on Sparc and Vax hardware...I guess I'm just boring.)

You can run any Windows program on a Mac using the emulator "Virtual PC".
