I have a copy of the Amelie trailer. Its the one that finished with maybe 20 seconds of silence at the end with quotes saying how good the film is and an In Theatres October date.

The problem is that the last 5 seconds of this the soundtrack turns clear. Suddenly the flat white line on a black background turns to solid clear on the soundtracks. It dosen't sound too hot going through the sound head.

Yeah, i remember my Amelie trailer was like that. It was my last trailer before a lense change so i just muted the sound unit, or faded the sound while the titles went through. You could always just remove the quotes if your not going to be in the booth when it goes through.

I've decided i think i will cut the last few seconds. Turning the sound down will still sound off in the auditorium as hiss would go to complete silence. I only have to run the trailer one more time anyway. And if the film company wanted the last part of the trailer to been show thay shouldn't have let this printing error slip through.

In all likely hood it is not a printing error. Back in the old days of black and white (and glorious mono sound ) they would perform an audio fade by doing just what you are describing. i have some daters from the late 50's that have this type of fade out. If the system is properly aligned, it shouldn't raise hell witht he sound as you describe, the coupling capacitors in the preamp will not let a pulse that long go through. But if your print is dirty on the other hand......

We screened these same trailers for a few months. it doesn't fade, it just cuts out causing a thump and then when it ends, it again thumps!.
Michael would it not be better to switch to an unused sound format/non sync and then switch back at the end of the trailer?. We personally faded down, although on occasions we did switch formats.

We are running this version

High Res

Medium Res

Low Res

Notice the last 10 seconds is silent. The white soundtrack suddenly occurs over the last few seconds of that and into the 2 seconds of black i have preserved after the end.

Sorry about that michael!, i'm not sure why i said that it didn't fade?
We did screen the same version and it does fade! . Unfortunatly the very kind british projectionist cut ALL the black off of the end of all the versions that came to our company, 7 in total! .
we had to get our distributer to make a new ending to state our starting date after it says the british date!
have fun!

In the United States Amelie was released my Miramax and we didn't have the same trailer at all. Actually I sort of liked your trailer a little bit better. The only problem with it is that the British version didn't use the music from the movie. The music from Amelie is very distinctive and I like it a lot. But the British trailer doesn't use it, I wonder why?

I don't belive that the Miramax trailer for Amelie had a dater on it.
