OK theres the Oscars® and the Razzies®, why not some kind of 'best and worst' awards for theatrical exhibition? Some criteria can be drawn up for several categories, things can be voted pn (likely by FT members in good standing) and then on Oscar night (or before a la Razzie Night) the awards can be 'given out' whether with a real certificate, or just in online fashion.

Some ideas for categories:

Best overall theatre (of singles and multiplexes)

Best Single Screen Theatre

Best Small Multiplex (2-5 screens)

Best Large Multiplex (6+ screens)

Best Technical achievement related to projection/exhibition

Best new cinema product

Best Projectionist/Film Handler

Best Manager

Best projection Booth

and of course you can have worsts as well in similar categories.

I figured it would be a good idea to kick around...

Whatya all think?

OK, but most FT members do not travel the country looking at many many theatres. At least I don't. I am only familiar with the ones in South Florida. There are probably many other members who are only familiar with the theaters in their area.

Theres where the difficulty lies. OK- Drop all the theatre and operator categories and go with ones that all can participate in, namely the product and services categories.

We had this debate about a year ago, I think. Bad idea. Too much possibility for hurt feelings, misguided complaints, etc when something goes public that should've been kept private.

Why not "Techies" for the same categories the Oscars use? (Sound, cinematography, etc.) Or we could add a few categories....best use of surround, best one-liner, etc. It would be fun.

This could also include the most soda someone drank while installing equipment.. who stayed up the longest getting an install done, the most film damaged in one day.... OTOH, I think Ken is right!

I think there is some merit in out own awards in terms of

- Best Picture
- Best Foreign Picture
- Best Special Effects
- Best animated film

etc

Brad can decide the categories then we email him our choices. Then he collates the information to work out which were the most popular nominations and which films one their respective categories. No hurt feelings - just an anonymous poll of which films we thought were the best during the year.

cheers Peter
