Hi everyone,

I was calculating some power needs for a theater: does the surround power should be calculate using the centerline of the width of the theater or should I use 2/3 of the width?
Bye

most likely you would want to do 2/3 width. that way you wont get blasted by the center channel driver. because after all, more power is needed to make those speakers louder.

Usually the centre line measurement is used.

Watts =

(100-S+20log r )
(--------------)
( 10 )

10

S = Speaker sensitivity (dB SPL at 1 meter for 1 watt)
r = Side wall to centre line in metres.

Sorry, it's really tricky to try and type math formulae and get it to work right.
