I would be interested in any known details of the total weight of the DP70 projector (without Lamphouse) as there is no information in the installation manual I have at home.

No help whatsoever, but the phrase 'uckin 'eavy springs to mind!

Perhaps the 70mm association can help?

Check Thomas Haurslev's site. I'm sure its there someplace. Probably in KG though, but that might suit you better. If you're going to move one, or what ever, be sure to have at least 4 people around to do the job. Other wise an engine hoist with lifting straps will also work fine. I have moved em myself that way. The other consideration is WOULD YOU ask a friend to help you move something like that??????
Not me......

A few years ago we moved 3 of them out of an old abandoned downtown theatre After disassembling them we got the drunks that were sitting in the lane and put 4 cases of beer in the lobby and explained when the 3 machines were in the lobby they could have the beer
The machines were in the lobby very fast indeed
At another location we had a Piano moving firm move them

The base and pedstal are not too bad, but the head itself is really heavy.

Not to mention that on the bottom of the head there is not much to get a grip onto as well. Even worse if its all oily/greasy.

I once handled a Simplex 1014 head with my bare hands.
After disconnecting all the wiring & belts & removing the mounting bolts,I slid it directly off the top of the soundhead onto the top of an MUT. I then stacked sturdy plastic milk crates in stair fashion
in front of the MUT & moved the head down them onto the floor.

You make that sound like some kind of great accomplishment... Hell, almost anyone can lift a Simplex picture head. Centurys are even easier!

Lets see you list the picture head portion of a DP70!

Last time I tried it without an engine hoist, my brother inlaw and I took the projection head off and sat it down on a pallet on the floor. That was the last time I ever did that. I though every blood vessel in my head was going to pop before we got it set down. Don't try it, it was a stupid move, no, a really stupid move. Use an engine hoist

Here's one for ya. Try lifting a Bauer U-2 head sometime. Its smaller, but lots heavier than the Norelco. Almost impossible to get two guys on it to do the lifting as there is no place to safely grab it that your fingers wouldn't get crushed when it was set down. Don't know the exact weight of the head but I'd estimate it at around 350+ lbs! Engine hoists are mandatory and the Egyptians we have down here in SLC even balked at having anything to do with it.....

Timely question Ben

You haven't by any chance recently aquired one from a certain Australian engineer in London have you?

Just yesterday I managed to convince "others" to move our recently purchased DP 70 down a s**tload of stairs. I now owe Dennis Laws the entire output of a reputable brewery for a year, the largest Murgh Makhani North of Watford and a gold card for the Widescreen Weekend!!
