Running "The Deep End" right now. Just went into the third reel. In the middle of the image is a small scratch -- it looks like someone took a needle and tried to poke a hole in the middle of every frame. The scratch is coming up green. Quite noticable and annoying. Haven't refunded or been asked for passes, but it's coming. My last print left in perfect condition so I'm very doubtful it's my machine. Obviously, with the print running I can't be more than 99.9% sure it's not my machine since i can't look at it before it goes into my Motograph -- but all my loops are fine. I'll be requesting a new print so any insight to add to my request makes me seem less like a whinner. Thanks! Paul

That's a loop scratch, or possibly an aperture scratch. If your projector has not scratched other prints in that fashion and you haven't touched the apertures in awhile (and they are clean) then you can bet it's a loop scratch.

You didn't mention if this was a new or used print.

Thanks for responding, Brad. It's a used print -- hot off the truck (There's a story here about the ETS guys sleeping in this Friday morning . . . .). I pretty much figured it had something to do with a loop, tho i have never seen a loop scratch so perfectly place a pin-hole-esque mark smack-dab in the middle of the image without any jumping. Fortunatly, it seems to be in only reels one and three. I got liberal with the Film Guard on those reels to see if it would help make them less noticable. I finally just ran those reels slightly out of focus which will do until i get a new print. My machine seems to be fine -- will run a fresh trailer loop tomorrow before the show to make sure. This might be a mix-and-match print and these bad reels came from a totally toasted print. I'll never know . . . . Thanks again. Paul
