I saw the "The Deep End" last evening. Anyone else have a problem with this title? From the beginning and through all the reels there was a blur of light (ghosting?) across the top of the screen. At first I thought it was a projection problem, maybe the shutter was not timed properly. Even though it was on every reel, it was not on every camera shot. Now I wonder if it was in the printing, or maybe, from the camera itself. Perhaps a registration problem. Anybody got any ideas or saw this?

The print I saw was fine... not a blemish to it.

Maybe an oily smudge across a section of the lens?

I saw the film last night at the AMC 24 in Hamilton Twp and the print was fine.

Sounds like travel ghost. Having a shutter slightly out of phase with the pulldown will cause travel ghost, and can occur in EITHER the camera or projector. Since no one else saw a problem in other prints, I suspect that the shutter timing is just slightly off on your projector, so you see the ghosting in scenes that are particularly critical (bright light areas against a dark background).

Try changing the shutter timing to see if you can get rid of it. If you can't adjust it out and the streaking changes to the other side of the light areas, and moves to the bottom of the screen, your shutter is not wide enough to cover the pulldown, or there is too much play in the drivetrain.

Our print is gorgeous and the cinematography is beautiful. A great film.

Obviously, I saw it at the wrong place.

Thanks for the feedback.
