Hey guys,

You may want to check out the May 11 issue of Entertainment Weekly. They have an article on Digital Cinema with a side bar interview with George Lucas which they also have on their website www.ew.com. The article probably won't tell anyone on this forum anything new, but you may want to give it a read.

If you click on the link above it will take you to TIME's website since they publish EW, but if you type in the link it will take you to EW's site. The Lucas article link is half way down the page.

I finally got a chance to read this article in the actual magazine.

There are things in here that are just amazingly stupid. Here's one:

*WHAT ABOUT THE SMALLER MOM ANP POP THEATERS? On the face of it, the coming conversion would seem to favor the major chains who (in theory at least) have deeper pockets .... in reality though, the mom-and-pops may be in the best position. "The cost of conversion for a small business is within the realm of possibility for a small business loan," says Eric Scheirer (analyst with Forrester Research). "If all I need to lay out is my $150,000, I make some technology arrangements, and all of a sudden I have a bright and shiny new screen."
(End quote)

This guy is a good example of how these "analysts" have no real idea of how the world actually works. I own one of those mom-and-pop theatres and there is no way I can justify that kind of money. Sheesh, you could outfit four booths with brand new equipment for $150K!

I can't see why anyone in ANY business would want to drop $150,000 on a technology that's almost guaranteed to be obsolete within a couple of years anyway.
