Why doesn't Film Tech simply delete a film topic after about a month of topic entries. While many people have a lot of interesting and relevant things to say on this site, I think it's appropriate to execute a topic after it has been saturated and no longer visited.
If it's something truly important, I'm sure the topic will reappear. I see at the end of this particular Forum, entries from April.

On the SMART Devices bulletin board, we had to upgrade the system due to some problems, and the old messages could not be kept. I do not know why exactly this was true since I was not involved in the change, but you would not believe the incredible outrage at deleting the old messages. Believe it or not, people do refer back to old posts for many months.

I for one would disagree with deleting old topics as long as it is feasible to keep them. I understand that space limitations are an obvious issue, but there are ways around that.

The problem with constantly deleting old posts after a given period of time is that the same topics will resurface time and time again with almost exactly the same discussion each time. I know this from many years experience participating in USENET groups and other forums for different topics. Archiving all of the old topics with the ability to search them prevents this problem to a degree and makes this site a great repository of information, and the site is moderated, which keeps flame wars and various other forum killers (such as spam) to a minimum.

I hope the transition to the new ISP goes very smoothly, since this forum has the best "signal to noise ratio" of any forum I've ever participated in on the internet. I wish there were more "Brad Millers" out there for some other types of sites as well.

Oscar's hit it right on the head. Keeping all topics here makes for a nice searchable archive. Plus, storing the pages really doesn't eat up much space. It's running a forum program that gets to many visitors a day that was proving to be the problem. No worries, everything will be fine real soon.
