The July Movie Tunes CD (or, more accurately, CD-R) simply refused to play in a standard CD player! Woo-hoo! I'm sure that the audience appreciated the silence. I hope that that whoever produces Movie Tunes continues to uphold these standards of quality control.

Dwaynes' CD-R of the Predator soundtrack also refused to play in out state-of-the-art (whatever that's supposed to mean) CD player. But it plays just fine in our crappy boombox.

The disc was not "closed/write protected". That is why it won't play in some machines.

Amazing no one at Movie Tunes realizes that. I'll bet they won't get any complaints about it not playing either!

What do you guys mean "CD-R"? The Movie Tunes CDs we get are standard silver CDs, not CD-Rs. My July disk plays fine, unfortunately.

What company are you with that you get pressed CD's from Movie Tunes. I'm with AMC and they are definately CD-R's. But I haven't ever had a problem with them playing. But I can hope can't I?

I believe MovieTunes burns their own cds for smaller chains. Not 100% sure on that though, I've never cared enough about their fine selection of music to bother.

Some older Cd drives just like some of the older cd roms have trouble reading some of the higher speed burned disks. Apparently it has something to do with the density of the burn
We have the top of the line Studder CD player and it won't play any burned disks

Brad,

Maybe Movie Tunes uses CD-Rs for chains, and pressed CDs for the generic disks, which is what we get.

Although last summer we got by mistake a Movie Tunes CD that said, "Our Carmike Cinema movie tunes program continues now, with.........." after which we got an apology letter and a replacement. Both those disks were siver, too. They must have accidentally pressed the Carmike program for the generic disks.

I agree their music selection sucks, but not as much as the announcer, I forget his name. Cheesy! Bland!

You mean that there are non-chain theatres that play Movie Tunes? Enough to justify real, pressed CDs? That's usually a 1000-copy minimum (+/- a few hundred).

Just out of curiousity, how much are the NCN/Movie Tunes people paying the independent theatres to play their crappy CDs? Is it something nontrivial (like several thousand $$$ per month) or are some theatre owners so cheap that they subject their customers to stuff like this for $100 a year or something like that.

PAID??! That's a laugh. The idea was "sold" to us basically under the possible threat of action by BMI or ASCAP regarding royalty fees. (Which could happen.....the golf course where I live had to cough up big bucks in order to play the RADIO in their clubhouse!)

I figured, hey it is free, and a way to play "current" tunes without ticking off the older folks. But, the music selection has gotten worse since we signed up for it, and the announcer is too boring for words, and they're starting to advertise ("This CD is available at all Target stores") during the program. So....the renewal will NOT be in the mail!

What does ASCAP charge these days? I remember paying them $10 a year in 1989, for our little drive-in to use the custom tape service.

How do you go about getting those cd's? Is this just a US thing or is there a Canadian contact?

Thanks

Richard

Golf course? My lord! Fees to play public radio? World going to hell? What, do they have music cops going around? Talk about extortion!

The theater I used to work at uses Movie Tunes, and being the sick bastard I am I've saved a copy of every one for my own evil purposes!
MOST of them are regular CDs from Nimbus (which I think used to make DIVX discs!) however we've had 2 that were on CD-Rs- one was last September's which came a few days late, and another one had some phone service ad only for California on it. We have also mistakenly gotten versions for both Carmike and AMC, I have one that even has the Carmike Cinemas logo next to the Movie Tunes on the CD.
I must thank Movie Tunes for exposing me to many songs that I otherwise would have gone out of my way to avoid; if it were not for them I would never have heard the likes of Christina Aguilera, "Livin la Vida Loca" or that "One Voice" song by that 12-year-old kid (which is just begging to be spruced up with some sound effects )
The announcer's name, by the way, is Chris Eric Stevens (sure that's his real name) and has managed never to have called in sick even once! They should have guest announcers every once in awhile, I'd gladly offer my services!

"What's a movie without hot popcorn, candy and an ice-cold soft drink? Wouldn't that taste great right now? Visit our concession stand for the best in movie refeshments!"

That guy has *got* to be someone's nephew that hasn't worked in radio for a while.

He's got that classic cheesy-plastic early 1980's small/medium market A/C announcer sound that all the CHR & Alternative jocks are making fun of on the air now.

Favorite movie tunes moment: someone in the audience shouting "Shut the *@!& up!" at the plastic movie tunes announcer.
