Say, whatever happened to the cyan-dye tracks that were supposed to be in widespread use by now? I have seen some prints that are labelled high-magenta, which was to be the interim process, but it seems the time frame for the transistion is off.

Wasn't this supposed to be a going thing by 2000 already?

The subject's been strangely silent (no pun intended).

Brad,

I thought January 2001 was when the decision was to be made as to which month later that year the prints would change to cyan.

I notice the 15,000 hour (3 - 4 years) life promised by red leds is now rarely mentioned as we find failures on most brands at less than 8,000hrs!

Jan1 2001 first cyan prints will start to flow
Most of the red diode failures seem to be due to the fact that a lot ofinstallations the current was not set to minimum
Often people believe that the factory prealigned readers would be smack on NOT
If properly aligned they should be able to workl at close to the minum current adjustment

January 2001, is that the date for Europe as well, or will that be later?

What's the cost to replace the LEDs? Actually, 8000 hours sounds pretty good when compared to the life of a regular incandecent exciter lamp!

What's the rated life of incandescent exciter lamps for 35mm machines, anyway? In over a year of working in a two-machine booth, I only had one exciter burn out (tho I replaced both of them at that time)...

Truth be told...January 2001 is when the initial TESTING is to begin on cyan track for release prints. Believe that if you want.

I personally don't think that cyan tracks will be in use when DCinema takes over.

There is no EPA regulation forcing the issue and the quality of cyan track is below that of the current tracks...where is the gain? The IR LED on the original silver tracks was the best idea...at least there we had improvement.
