Does anyone know how many turns of magnet wire are on each side of a changeover coil?
I have several to rebuild, and lost the information. Help!

Thanks!

There's no way to know, unless someone has unwound one and counted. It would be different, depending on the manufacturer, voltage, (AC or DC) etc.

If you do some, tell us- it might help someone in the future.

Why not just buy a new changeover coil? You can buy both the Essannay Electric "Zipper" and Weaver changeover coils from Wolk in Chicago.

Kelmar coils are basicly a Guardian or Dormeyer solenoid.

John,

You'll find for this application it's not that critical. After all, the coil is on for a fraction of a second at most. I assume there is a bobbin or form the wire is wound on. All you need do is measure the wire diameter and get the right size magnet wire. Then simply fill the bobbin / coilform with about the same amount of wire. Magnet wire tables are available at www.mwswire.com/barecu1.htm and one supplier that will sell small quantities of magnet wire is Mouser electronics ( www.mouser.com ). I've done this for other solenoids in the past with no problems.

Most Motor shops will rewind them for a fairly small fee.
