Anyone else having problems with F.D. staying in DTS during the final reel. I'm just guessing, but I think our print might have been printed slightly off-center, causing the timecode reader to "miss" the DTS track. My reason for thinking this is that along with the DTS problems, a purple strip showed up just barely inside the left screen masking (both audio and visual problems occur in the final reel or two ONLY... the rest of the print seems fine). Could it be possible that everything on the print got shifted a bit, causing the DTS track to be misalligned and part of the soundtrack to show up within the aperture plate opening?
Is mis-printing of this sort possible? John Pytlak?
By the way, fun movie!

No problems with DTS here, although both of my prints are playing in Dolby Digital. However, one of our prints does not track particularly well in SRD. It runs, but it "F's" a lot. The trailers run perfectly in Dolby Digital so it is obviously the print.

We're running it in a DTS house and have no problems.

SMPTE Recommended Practice RP 115 specifies the "Dimensions of Photographic Control and Data Record on 35-mm Motion-Picture Release Prints", i.e., the placement and scanned width of the DTS time code data track.

The centerline of the data track is specified as 0.297 +/- 0.001 inches (7.54 +/- 0.03mm) from the reference edge of the print. The scanned width is 0.005 +/- 0.001 inches (0.13 +/- 0.03mm).

The green LED light stays on constantly until the final reel... then it becomes erratic--going on and off at random, sometimes kicking it out of DTS, sometimes not.

Your report would indicate you have a bad reel. You or district manager should contact your exchange for a replacement of the bad reel. In the interim, to provide your customers with a continuous "good show" stick with analog or another digital format, if available.
