There's an interesting article in the latest Film Journal about Technicolor's dye-transfer process. I already checked the filmjournal.com website and it isn't on there, unfortunately, but maybe some of you can glom onto your office's copy. It gives a historic timeline of the process, and a pretty good overview of how it works.

Sounds like more and more prints are going to be made this way...for once Tech is doing something right!?

Technicolor "labs" have always been one of the best labs for printing. Technicolor "film shipping depot" (AKA: "TES") is what most people here complain about.

Which are you referring to?

Also, did the article say anything about future plans on printing? How many prints per thousand regulars? Will they eventually switch completely over?

We NEED a rep from Technicolor labs here on the forum.

Turner Classic Movies had an excellent show on this past Sunday about the history of technicolor. It's on again on 2/19 at 5:00am EST.

Brad --

I was referring to Technicolor "the company." Aren't the labs and the shipping service all under the same umbrella?

I'm well aware of Tech's great reputation for prints, but if they're that quality-conscious, it should extend to all areas of the company.

I don't remember if the article said anything about eventual print quantities or a total switchover. (I was skimming it during dinner last night.) I'll give it a more thorough look tonight and post again if it has that info.
