I have heard rumors that all films will be going to IR/LED formats and that all theatres will have to upgrade to this or not have sound. Please help me disspell fiction from fact. Thanks All.

In the future, you will need an LED light source, but not an IR, they need to be visible red LEDs. The reason is that the soundtrack will no longer have silver in it, and a full spectrum of light will cause excessive noise and a severe loss of gain as the lack of silver will let light go right through the entire sound track(including the parts of the sound track that are supposed to block the light) to the cell.

No one knows exactly what date the change will take place, but it is supposed to happen when 80% of theatres are equipped with LED readers. I could be wrong on the percentage, but if I am, I'm sure someone will correct me.

I think this topic should be closed the issue of LED requirments for dye tracks has been hashed over in several topics on the site so It might be wise to look there rather than repeating it all over again and again
