Author Topic: IR/LED Manditory Upgrages? Sean McLemore Film Handler Posts: 2 From: Wichita, Kansas Registered: Dec 1999 posted 12-12-1999 11:26 AM                     I have heard rumors that all films will be going to IR/LED formats and that all theatres will have to upgrade to this or not have sound. Please help me disspell fiction from fact. The reason is that the soundtrack will no longer have silver in it, and a full spectrum of light will cause excessive noise and a severe loss of gain as the lack of silver will let light go right through the entire sound track(including the parts of the sound track that are supposed to block the light) to the cell. No one knows exactly what date the change will take place, but it is supposed to happen when 80% of theatres are equipped with LED readers.
