I've been reading with great interest the
stories on the development of the new digital projection technology. My question, however, is "Can digital projection be adapted to drive-in theatres?" I've never seen outdoor applications addressed in any of the articles.

Putting aside for the moment the financial issues, are digital projectors adaptable to drive-ins or other outdoor venues where there are often very long throws? I realize that xenon lamps are still part of the equation, so I assume that is a positive. What about the rest of the electronics? Is it still capable of doing the job?

As a staff member for the recently organized United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association, I spend a lot of time behind the scenes in outdoor cinemas. Some of the owners and managers I've recently talked to are wondering whether the new technology will be
usable in their theatres. Any info anybody might have on this would be greatly appreciated.

I know that Chuck Collins of Digital Projection has been dying to do an outdoor, triple stacked Digital Projection presentation.

His email address is, ccollins@digitalprojection.com

Drop him a line and see what he has to say.

Thanks for the advice. Chuck e-mailed me directly and asked me to contact him to discuss the idea. It sounds good to me!
