The SMPTE site (http://www.smpte.org) is worth exploring. You can see the ongoing work of the technical committees, get a listing of all SMPTE standards and recommended practices and order copies, and order publications and test films. The site also has a schedule of upcoming meetings, and lists local section activities.

For those in the UK, the BKSTS also has an excellent site at: http://www.bksts.demon.co.uk
