Studio Movie Grill
(under construction)
Plano, TX
Residents of Plano might recognize this theater under construction
as a place where they used to go to see first run movies when it was called
the United Artists Berkeley Square 8.
That's the old Men's restroom on the right and the entrance ramp to
the tickettaker to the left.
Auditorium #4 with it's seats removed and curtains (and sound proofing)
pulled out of the way for wiring purposes (and most probably new curtains
too).
Auditorium #5 after the rear wall has been removed to widen the back
hallway. Those random strips of conduit used to be inside closets
in the back hallway. Note: the screens have a plastic covering
over them for protection during construction, they don't really have the
ripples in them.
Shot from #6 auditorium showing the original hallway on the left of
the wall and the "closet" area on the right. The wall dead center
of this picture is to be removed on both sides of the hallway to more than
double the width of the hallways.
The booth after upgrading. Most of the projection equipment has
remained (with repair work performed) and all of the sound equipment has
been replaced. This is the only part of the theater that is finished
(less B-chains and video equipment installation.) The theater is
slated to open towards the end of Feb 2000.
Auditoriums #6 and 7 (small houses). All houses use Simplex XL
projectors, Strong Highlight lamphouses and Christie AW3 platters.
Auditorium #8 is no longer. It is being converted into a bar.
The platter has been disassembled for sale and the Simplex XL projector
was moved to #5 where the Century JJ was removed (to keep all projectors
the same).
Projectionist's work area between #2 and 3.
Simplex XL with cat 701 Dolby Digital penthouse readers.
ALL screens are now equipped for Dolby Digital 6 track sound.
Sound rack for #4 (a large house). Note the clean square on the
carpet to the left? That's where the second sound rack used to sit
back when UA had a Dolby CP-55 and SDDS player in this auditorium.
Going with Dolby CP-500s and Dolby Digital not only provides a better system,
but saves rack space as well. Video projectors will be installed
in all auditoriums before opening and a Hughes machine is slated to be
mounted to the left of this sound rack, where the old rack used to sit.

When this theater was opened, all wiring came in from the ceiling.
This was preserved to keep conduit off of the floor. Note the barrier
strip at the top where all incoming and outgoing wiring is terminated.
NEW ADDITIONS
Much work is being performed in the lobby. The sunken UA concession
stand has been filled in and the double entrance ramps have been changed
over to a more practical single ramp.
